Distant dreamer

“That’s it, you are benched.” He said; “No more field assignments.”

She stood there in shock, she begged him not to do that. She looked at him as he told her once again how badly she had performed then he continued reading the file as if nothing happened as if he hadn’t just told her that he took away the one thing that was dear to her.

Something broke in her when she heard those words, it was her one freedom. The one thing he could actually take away from her. Besides ‘The Company’ there was nothing important enough to take away. And ‘The Company’ was the one thing she knew, the one thing that had always made sense in her life since she was seven years old. She was now twenty four but her life had been about her abilities never about her.

She had been tested, prodded and encouraged to improve herself. Time after time better results  and finishing an assignment with good results was the only way her father ever showed any kindness towards her. It was the only ways she could get him to notice her, without that she was nothing.

Sometimes your own feelings went completely against every rational thought, against everything you had ever learned. And sometimes you just had to act on it. They both knew it was wrong, both of them where convinced that this would shift everything. The lines between the ‘heroes’ and the ‘villains’ where blending and eventually fading. Right and wrong was no longer white and black, there was a big area that would be defined as gray.

Claire was right when she asked Elle if she was stalking her, in a way Elle was doing just that. She watched Claire as she stood on the rocks near the sea disposing the ashes of her father into the ocean. Elle was shocked when Claire came up to her, rage evident in her voice and her behavior. Elle pushed her by calling her Pom-pom, knowing that it would enrage her even more. Seconds later when Claire fist smashed into the car window she knew that she hit a raw and exposed nerve.

For months now Elle had been trying to find out who was right and who was wrong. Was Elle’s father right, did ‘The Company’ keep the world safe by keeping the most deadly virus in a vault, hidden for thirty years. Or was it once again the ‘heroes’ because Peter Petrelli destroyed the virus so that it couldn’t harm anyone anymore. And if destroying it had been the only solution was Peter Petrelli the only man who could have done it or had ‘The Company’ had that choice too thirty years ago and did they not do it for some reason.

That day at the beach had been a few months ago and ever since that time more or less Elle had been following Claire around. Not because her father told her to but because Claire had always been on her mind. She wondered about the girl, wanted to know her. Wished that she had a family like Claire’s someone who cared about what happened to her. Claire had everything that Elle had ever dreamed of all those countless hours spend alone at ‘The Company’. She had been there since she was seven years old, the cold building with the gray and white walls had been her home. While other kids played with friends and the newest toys and got educated at school she was prodded and tested by doctors and scientists.

She was walking down the street and for once she hadn’t been looking for Claire, though she wasn’t far from her mind. She rounded a corner to get some groceries when all of the sudden she noticed a young blonde woman across the street from her. They looked up at exactly the same moment, their eyes met and both looked surprised. Elle was the first to recover, she spun around and walked down the alley she had passed seconds before she noticed Claire on the other side of the street. Behind her she could hear screeching tires of cars that came to a quick halt, she smiled. Claire did exactly what she and expected her to do. She was following her, and by the honking horns in the street and the screeching tires it was obvious she was doing it the way only Claire could do it. She didn’t bother about getting hurt, she knew that she would heal in a matter of seconds she just crossed the street.

“Elle!” She screamed down the alley.

Elle turned around and looked at her daringly. “What do you want, Pom-pom?”

Claire walked up to her; “Are you following me again?” She asked angrily. “Are you fucking stalking me again, Elle?”

“That must be the ´cheerleader-being-important´ complex speaking again, sure it used to be ‘save the cheerleader save the world’ but that mission ended already.” Elle smiled evilly; “The world doesn’t revolve around you anymore, Pom-pom. Get used to it.” She honestly had not been looking for Claire, sure she was doing her own groceries in the neighborhood where Claire lived. And sure she had hoped to catch a glimpse of the young blonde girl but it had not been her intention.

“You are still following me around, so something about me must still be important enough for you.” Claire countered back.

For a second Elle’s smug smile faded, it was as if Claire could see straight through her. Into her heart where she kept her true feelings hidden. The idea of her secret uncovered, sparked an electrical bolt in the palm of her hand. Too small to really hurt anyone, but big enough for Claire to notice.

“You know Elle, that doesn’t work on me.” Claire smiled innocently; “But I obviously touched a subject that matters to you.”

Elle mumbled something that Claire couldn’t understand. Elle seemed nervous, something Claire never thought she would see in the other woman. She stepped closer to her, invading Elle’s personal space forcing her to step back towards the wall. “What is it that makes you so interested in me? Is it ‘The Company’, my father … or something else?” Her heart skipped a beat when Elle looked up. There was something in her eyes that Claire couldn’t explain. “What, Elle?”

Elle smiled deviously, stepped closer to Claire and kissed her. It took a couple of seconds before Claire reacted, but when she did she kissed Elle back with just as much passion. Elle broke the kiss and wanted to walk away; “I hope that ‘that’  answered your question.”

Claire grabbed her hand and pulled her back, crashing their bodies together before she kissed her again.

How they ended up at Claire’s dorm room she might never know. She couldn’t remember exactly, everything happened so fast. One second they where mad at each other, provoking the other person to get them to admit or deny what they where doing. All the while they where hiding their interest for each other.

The next thing she knew she couldn’t keep her hands to herself. Claire guided them to her dorm room even though she was sure that Elle knew exactly where that was. Once inside their passionate kisses continued to explore newly revealed skin in a rapid rhythm. While articles of clothing dropped to the floor one by one. No rational thought came to mind while it happened, it was just pure lust.

Claire was surprised by the caring touches of Elle’s hands and lips. Elle had pushed her down on the bed when they where almost completely undressed and laid down besides her. Her fingers running over Claire’s skin. First on her arms while she kissed her simultaneously. Every now and then small lighting bolts sparked from Elle’s fingers, not in a painful manner but meant as a tease.

Claire entangled her hands in Elle’s blonde hair and pulled her close she kissed her passionately, while her other hand traveled down the curves of Elle’s body. Exploring every shape on the way down. Until she reached Elle’s midsection, she wasn’t sure if she should continue. She searched Elle’s eyes for approval and when she saw it she continued with a smile. Elle mirrored Claire’s actions and as their exploration continued their breathing and motions became more rapidly.

After a while their motions became fluid, there movements seemed to flow together in a passionate rhythm or loving and caring. Muscles tightened when Elle came crashing down from her arousal. Soon followed by Claire who moaned  Elle’s name as a mantra as she came down from her high.

Claire joked that this experience had been electrifying, Elle chuckled at her choice of words. That sure was one way to describe it. Both Claire and Elle stared at the sealing trying to regain there breathing. They didn’t talk but the silence between them was comfortable, for the first time. Elle smiled at Claire, a  smile she leaned down and grabbed the corner of the sheets and covered the both of them. Elle watched  Claire as her eyes closed and she fell asleep, a little smile played on her lips.

They say opposites attract and in this case that certainly applied. Elle wasn’t sure if this would ever happen again, but she was glad it did even if it was just this once. It would be a precious memory of her and Claire together. She took one last look at the cheerleader, who was lying on the bed asleep her arm placed on top of the pillow that Elle had occupied minutes before. And for a moment Elle wondered if she would search for her, on the brink of waking up if she would consciously stretch her arm out searching for Elle next to her. She wondered if Claire would miss her when she realized that Elle had left in the middle of the night, or if she would be mad. Elle hoped that Claire would understand that the only reason she left was because it could cause a danger to the both of them if their little secret was ever revealed.

The sheets barely covering Claire’s naked body, an image that would be connected to the precious memory.  Now that she had been with Claire and even after she had seen the other woman so vulnerable she hadn’t lost her sparkle. The magic was still there and Elle knew now for sure that it wouldn’t fade. But at the same time she knew that  this dream would bring them both in trouble, more trouble that they could possibly handle.

“The world isn’t fair, Pom-pom.” She spoke softly, regret marked her voice. She didn’t want to wake Claire up. She smiled at the nickname that she secretly gave Claire when she first saw her, she had used it in a  denigrate manner but that was not entirely what she meant by it. Elle had been fascinated by her seemingly innocence, fascinated by her appearance and strength as she passed Claire on the shore. And later on when Claire approached her on the beach when she was watching her she had been even more impressed by the cheerleader.

She closed the door silently and made her way through the long hallway of the dorm. The place that Claire had moved to, a way to get a grip on her own life. University had been the way to escape from her fathers all controlling eyes, after he had suddenly reappeared from death. No one knew what exactly had happened, but then again they where heroes with special powers, someone had obviously resurrected him after the bullet passed through his eye. Elle disappeared into the cold night leaving the dorm room behind her, a smile played on her lips.
