Glee

So Glee, what can I say about Glee. It was almost a given that I was going to love this show – it’s hilarious, with just the right amount of drama and music. There are songs in every episode and if you know me you know that I love music. Besides that I have a huge weakness for musicals. Yes,  I do and no not the musicals you see in a theater (well I like those too) but no I mean the musical movies – Grease, Chicago, Moulin Rouge and Rent among others. So really Glee and I was supposed to happen so to speak … once I saw the first episode I was completely hooked.

So who do I ship

Well of course I ship Faberry, that is a given for some reason in my mind opposites attract, I guess … They are so different and yet so much alike. They are both young girls trying to find their way in live, the best way they can. And I love how they are both extremely flawed. They have both made their fair share of mistakes. but both have also shown a tremendous growth. Quinn is the Head Cheerleader, the girl who can make you or break you at the high school while Rachel is the girl who dreams of one day being a star on Broadway. She’s at the bottom of the social ladder, partly due to Quinn’s doing. And while Quinn seems to be so well put together and in control she’s really isn’t she has her own struggles.

The second couple I love are Brittany and Santana, better known maybe as Brittana. Who doesn’t love those two? Brittany, the slightly dense girl with a huge heart. And Santana the uber-bitch who’s madly in love with Brittany. In the first season they didn’t even have a real role, at least not in the beginning they mainly just sway in the back. That is until people started noticing them and they got a couple of lines. The rest is as they say history … a few episodes leaned heavily on Heather Morris and Naya Rivera’s characters, and some of the most dramatic moments on the show surely belonged to them. Remember all of those locker scenes – Flirt Locker, Hurt Locker, Dirt Locker, Frozen Dessert Locker, Shirt Locker, Revert Locker – all of them were awesome.

While one couple is canon the other one is not likely to ever happen, never the less I ship them.

A little explanation

Oh, by the way the reason why I am not so happy with theater musicals is that here in the Netherlands we only get the translated versions and very rarely in small theaters we get to see an English version by an American theater group but not the big productions and I am not a huge fan of Dutch music in general so in a way it annoys me to hear something in Dutch especially when I know the original songs. Don’t even get me started on that Dutch version of Glee they are talking about because seriously that is the worst idea ever. First of all school in the Netherlands is not like high school in the US … oh no, now I did start ranting! Anyway school’s different, that however doesn’t mean that there is no bullying (I am the prime example of someone who was bullied) it does mean that 75% of the whole idea behind Glee does not work. We don’t have football, cheerleaders or glee clubs, nor do we have any other groups at schools. The whole ‘Head Cheerleader/Quarterback’ story does simply not work. Since there are no Glee clubs there also is no reason to burst into song every single moment…. Okay, I better end this rant now before I write a mile-long essay.
