It only hurts when I breathe

“We wake up one day, we realised that for fifty years we haven’t lived. But then all of the sudden, we get a second chance. Somebody young and beautiful shows up. Somebody we can care about. She offers us a new life with her, but we have a big decision to make. Because we have to risk everything that we have worked for all these years.”

“I couldn’t do it …but you did. You risked it all.”

His work, those damned bugs are really more important, more important then a social life? More important then a life at all? My image reflects in the window and I can see the pained expression on my face. Is it really worth all of this.

“She showed you a wonderful life, didn’t she? But then she took it away and gave it to somebody else. And you where lost.”

Standing behind the two way mirror I could hear every single word. The numb feeling in my heart spread out to my entire body. Is he afraid that he might loose me one day, hasn’t he seen that he has already lost me. Why can’t he say that to me. Is it really necessary to kick me down when I open up to him.

“So you took her life.”

Can’t he just say those words to me. Why can’t he open up, can’t he just tell me that he made a mistake. That he didn’t mean it like that. Can’t he beg me for a second chance …

You killed them both and now you got nothing.”

Isn’t that what he did to me, in a way he killed me, my pride. He didn’t kill me literally but the numb feeling that spread throughout my body when he turned me down, makes me feel like I’m dead inside.

Sara Sidle/Calleigh Duquesne

Title:  Listen to me
Author: nepeace
Fandom: CSI/CSI: Miami
Pairing: Sara Sidle/Calleigh Duquesne
Rating: PG
Challenge: Your challenge is to write a Calleigh/Sara piece (obviously). It must be no more than 800 words.

You must include the following words:
Dirty
Refract
Striptease
Wormeaten
Merciful

Also the following phrases:
‘Bite me’
‘I want someone to hear me’
‘You’ve got the wrong girl’
‘It’s a beautiful lie’
‘Pent up sexual tension’

Listen to me

“You wormeaten bastard!” Sara scolded as she walked out of her boss’ office. He called her back but she preferred to ignore him. “Oh bite me!” She called out frustrated.

Minutes later she walked out of the building into the parking lot. She walked over to her car, but wasn’t pleased with the sight in front of her. Grissom was leaning against her car waiting for her arrival.

“Sara it’s just for on week, they need someone in Miami, you’ll be back before you know it.” Grissom tried to reason with her.

You’ve got the wrong girl, why don’t you ask little miss striptease to go, she had a blast last time. She had a blast with that Horatio guy last time.”

“Look Sara, I know that things between Cath and you got screwed up, but there is no need to talk about her like that. It’s better for the both of you when you don’t see each other for a while, before things get real dirty.”

“That is a beautiful lie!” Sara replied the sarcasm dripping from her voice. “You are just afraid to loose her.” She got into the car and drove off.

Sara entered the Miami crime lab and asked to see Horatio Craine, minutes later he came walking down the corridor together with a beautiful girl. Horatio introduced the woman as Calleigh Duquesne. Horatio told them that they would be working together. And Calleigh offered Sara a place to stay, which she gladly took.

Sara and Calleigh had been working together for two days and where almost inseperable, when you saw one of then the other one couldn’t be far behind. That night they sat together drinking some beers in Calleigh’s garden. When all of the sudden their conversation turned to relationships and Sara’s frustrations came to the surface once again.

I want someone to hear me, someone who understands my needs.”

“Why wouldn’t they understand you?” Calleigh asked surprised while she watched Sara intensely.

“All they can think of is setting me up with a guy. I know I’m not the example of a dyke, but common’ it’s 2003, why can’t they just be more open-minded about it.” The alcohol certainly didn’t help in explaining the matter. Sara drank the rest of her beer before opening another bottle and took a sip.

“Don’t listen to me it’s just me and my pent-up sexual tension.” Sara said frustrated.

Calleigh stared at her new friend considering her chances before moving closer. She placed a soft kiss onto Sara’s mouth. Sara was shocked but recovered quickly. A merciful smile refracted her face before she moved closer to Calleigh and kissed her back. The kiss quickly deepened until there was no way back.

Lonely nights

Sara gazed at the beautiful woman on the other side of the bar; she looked deeply into her whisky glass before she drank it all in one swig. Then she stood up took a leather jacket in her hand and crossed the distance between her side of the bar and mine. “Jordan Cavanaugh.” Was all she said when she sat down next to me on the empty bar stool. She ordered two beers and looked at me expectantly. “Sara, Sara Sidle.” We sat there in silence until she asked me to join her in her hotel room for another drink.

A phone call away

We had promised to call when I left, but we didn’t she didn’t and neither did I. I checked my phone and hoped that she had called. But she never did. I guess that we where realistic, and both knew that it wouldn’t work. And besides that, I have Lindsey. I can’t just gather my belongings and ask for a transfer. So that I can chase after something that seems like love. There where no guaranties.

But deep in my heart I know that I love her and that there was a chance that things would work out. Sometimes I dream about her, I can still remember her voice when she called out my name. I can still remember the curves of her sexy body underneath my hands. The way that I caressed her skin, and the goose bumps that disappeared the moment I laid my hands on her.

Even now after a year, I still can’t get her out of my mind.

I remember that I have some vacation time coming up and I promised Lindsey that I would show her the ocean. Maybe I can pay Calleigh with a visit, I think while I look up her number in my cell phone.

“Calleigh Duquesne.” The memories hit me again when I hear her voice. I smile before I answer.

“Calleigh, hi it’s Catherine.”

“Catherine, Oh my god I never thought that I would hear your voice again. Do you have another case overhere?”

“No, I don’t but I have some vacation time coming up and I was thinking about spending some time in Miami, any hotels you can recommend?”

“Yeah, my place.” She answers with a chuckle. “My door is always open for a visitor like you.”

“Calleigh, I would love to but I can’t, I’m taking Lindsey with me.”

“Ow Cath, please. I have a spare-room, I would love to meet Lindsey. And besides that hotels in this area are way to expensive.”

“Would you do that for me?” I asked still not convinced, but ready to give in.

“Do that for you, of course I would. When is your vacation, I can take some time of and show you around Miami?” She asked and convinced me. “I’ve missed you so much, you can’t even imagine.” She pleaded with her honey sweet voice.

“I guess that I have a pretty good idea, I missed you too. I should have called, months ago.”

Title:  Can’t stop thinking

Pairing: Calleigh/Cath, implied Sara/Catherine and a little bit of Eddie and Catherine

Can´t stop thinking

I´m drunk and I know it. I feel alone, desperately alone.

I stare at the picture in my hands, the picture Speed took from me and her, the picture that I´ve cherished all this time. The picture that she gave me right before I stepped inside the helicopter. I knew that it wouldn´t last, I knew that I had to go back to Vegas with Warrick, but still …

Sometimes I wish that I would have come back to Vegas to gather my belongings and move to Miami with Lindsey. Would that make things easier I don´t know. Maybe I wouldn´t have caused so much pain to some people.

I would have taken Lindsey away from Eddie and she wouldn´t have been there when he got killed. I wouldn´t have blown up the lab and almost kill Greg and Sara. A tear rolls down my cheek. Sara …

I take another sip from the wine. “No, I have to stop thinking about Sara …, she doesn´t want me.”

She likes guys, bastards like Hank, who cheat on her the same way Eddie did with me. At least the outcome fom that relationship made a lot of things right. Lindsey she´s the best daughter I could ever imagine.

My mind wanders off again to the trip that I made two years ago, Warrick and I went to Miami to solve a murder, and to find a little girl. All I found was warmth and understanding by the person that I least expected. I first saw her that day that we arrived.

She was standing their in front of me, her long blond hair slowly moving by the slight breece, wearing sunglasses that covered her beautiful eyes. I immediately noticed her beauty. And apparently she noticed me just as much as I noticed her.

I can still remember eery single detail of her naked skin under my hands that night and the following nights. I can still hear her call out my name in ecstasy.

But I lost it, I lost her … I put my bet on Sara and she, she doesn´t want me.

I made the wrong bet.

Author’s Notes: Third part (Can’t stop thinking, Only a phone call away)

Back to Miami

I scanned the crowd at the end of the gate. My hand reached out to Lindsey’s, I watched my little angel and smiled. Lindsey smiled back and together we continued the way down the gate. I scanned the crowd and noticed the woman that I’d met the year before, the woman that never left my mind since that moment I first saw her. The image was burned on my mind and haunted me at night.

The blonde spotted her and waved. I smiled and waved back. She quickly made her way through the crowd. And I met her half way, we fell into each other’s embrace and hugged each other.

“Catherine, God I’ve missed you. We should have called ages ago.” She kissed me before she released her grip on me.

“I know, I know believe me. Hey, I want you to meet Lindsey, my daughter.”

“So your Lindsey, hi sweetheart.”

Lindsey reached her hand towards Calleigh. “Yes, I’m Lindsey, Madame.” Lindsey said, while she shook Calleigh’s hand.

“Madame, no please call me Calleigh.” Calleigh insisted. Lindsey watched Calleigh for a second before she watched me, I nodded my head.

“Okay, Calleigh.” She said still not sure about it.

“Common’ let’s go somewhere and get something to eat.”

After receiving the suitcases they made their way through the airport and Calleigh showed them the way to her car. They got in and drove downtown. Calleigh showed them the city while they sought out a restaurant to eat. Lindsey had apparently lost her shyness because she was asking Calleigh all kinds of questions, about Miami, and the beach. I smiled while I listen to the answers that Calleigh gave Lindsey. Last time when I was here we didn’t have time to do something like this. We where working on a case and went back to Vegas when we solved it. I pushed my sunglasses down and stared out of the window, while every now and then I watched Calleigh. She had changed since last time I saw her, her hair was different, shorter. But there was something else.

Calleigh drove us to a small restaurant at the beach. We sat down on the terrace and soon a waiter reached our table and we ordered something to eat.

“Mom, can I go to the sea, I’ll be back when the food arrives, please.” She looked at me with those big blue eyes, which even I couldn’t deny.

“Okay, but stay where I can see you.” I watched her as she hopped of her chair and ran through the sand towards the sea. It was funny how someone could be so captivated by the sight of the waves. She was just standing there watching the see as the waves rolled in.

“She’s a great girl, your so lucky.” Calleigh said while she placed her sunglasses in her hair.

“ I know, we’ve gone through a lot this past year. She’s the one who kept me going.” Calleigh placed her hand on my arm, her touch comforted me. “ Without my baby I would be lost.”

Holding her hand in mine made me feel the same as I felt last year when I just saw her for the first time. I was nervous about meeting her. From the moment I laid eyes on her I was attracted to her. And just seeing her now, it felt as if we had never been apart. Which was weird because we never really had the time get to know each other.

“Missed you babe.” I said while I kissed Calleigh. Calleigh’s hand reached up to my face and she placed her hand on my cheek She slowly moved her hand to my neck and deepened the kiss.

We broke apart when we heard someone cough. The waiter came back with our order, he placed it on the table and left again without saying a word. I stood up and stepped of the terrace into the sand and called Lindsey’s name. She turned around and ran back to me when she saw me waving. She wrapped her arms around me when she reached me.

“Like it here, Linds?”

“I love it here, it all looks so nice. I really like Calleigh.”

“I’m glad that you do, kiddo.” I kissed the top of her head before we proceeded our way back to Calleigh and out dinner.

The one with the child

He looked inside his office one last time before he silently closed the door. A smile was playing on his face while he walked away.

Grissom rounded the corner, in his hand he held the new case files to hand out to the team. Tonight was his night to be at the office all night, doing the stack of files that flooded his desk all week. He hated doing the paperwork and he always tried to let someone else do it. But things had changed and nowadays it wasn’t to bad to stay at the lab one day a week to catch up on the paperwork.

He opened the door to the break room and left it open when he saw that only Catherine and Sara where there.

“Hey Grissom!” Sara said when she saw him come in, Catherine turned around and send him a loving smile.

“Sara.” He nodded in his typical Grissom way something that even Catherine couldn’t change about him. Grissom sat down next to Catherine and rested his hand on her knee, she put her own hand on top of his and smiled at him. Even though it took them a lifetime to realize what they meant to each other there love couldn’t be stronger then it was since they did. And you know what they say opposites attract and they where like day and night. Sara smiled at the thought. Sara rolled her eyes when she saw Greg standing in the door opening and looked back at the newspaper in front of her. Slowly the remaining of the team came into the room and sat down around the table waiting for the assignments.

~*~

Nick and Warrick came walking down the hallway when something stopped them. Warrick pointed at the little girl standing in the hallway, wearing her pj’s and a stack of papers. Which looked a lot like case files.

Sara leaned back in her chair and tried to see where Nick and Warrick where, when she noticed the little girl. Sara waved at Jaimy who smiled with a bright smile and held up the papers in her hands. Sara reached out and touched Catherine’s arm alerting her that Jaimy was standing in the doorway.

“Jaimy, sweetie what are you doing here? Why aren’t you sleeping, munchkin?” Asked her little girl who should have been sleeping in Grissom’s office. She walked up to the little girl, and hugged her close while she picked her up. Grissom turned around, he could have sworn that his daughter was sleeping when he left her in his office. Friday was the day that Grissom would work on his paperwork and other supervisor work, and he and Catherine had agreed that they would bring Jaimy in each Friday. She would sleep through most of the night anyway, but not today apparently.

Warrick and Nick entered the break room. “Wow check it out, we got a new female team member!” Nick exclaimed happily. Jaimy giggled when she saw her ‘uncles’.

“Sweetie what’s this?” Catherine asked when she saw the stack of papers in her daughters hands.

“Me’s helping daddy?” she said with a proud smile. She pulled one of the papers from the small stack and pretended to be reading it.

“See this one is for auntie Sara!” Jaimy held the paper out into Sara’s direction.

“No sweetie that’s daddy’s job you better hand those to him.” Catherine intervened her little girl from pulling any more papers from the stack. She knew that Grissom wouldn’t be very amused if his paperwork was one big mess again. Grissom had come in early to work to sort out the papers that flooded his desk.

Jaimy handed the papers to her dad and smiled at him. “Me’s a big girl, aren’t I?”

“Yes sweetie you are and I am sure that daddy thinks so too. But now it’s time to go to bed.”

“Okay mommy,” she said as she wrapped her small arms around Catherine’s neck. Catherine made her way through the break room, and Jaimy said good night to everyone. Grissom kissed his little girl. “One day you’ll be a really good CSI, sleep well munchkin.” He said while he ruffled her curly blond hair.

He waved at Jaimy, and turned around to face his other family, the graveyard shift finally ready to hand out the assignments.

A priceless gift

I sit down on the bench in the locker room as the door opens. By the movements I know that it’s Warrick who enters the room. But I don’t move, all I want is to feel his arms around me telling me that everything is all right. But I don’t move, I can’t …

I can feel his beautiful eyes pierce into my back. As he watches me intensely. I take in a deep breath and let it out slowly. All I want to think about is Warrick with his beautiful piercing eyes, his soft mouth and his strong arms around me.

He moves closer hesitantly as if he needs approval. “Cath?” I hear his voice nothing more than a soft concerned whisper. But I don’t answer, there is nothing to answer. “Cath, what’s wrong?” He asks, still nothing more then a soft whisper. He sits down behind me and starts to massage the tense muscles of my shoulders. I push my body into his all I want is the touch of his warm skin on my body. He understands my silent plea and wraps his arms around me. He pulls me closer, so close that I can feel the rhythm of his heartbeat on my back.

“Hey babe, is everything all right?” He asks again while he caresses my neck with his mouth.

“Well if you insist, no not everything is all right.” I sigh deeply before continuing.

“Then tell me what’s wrong, Kitty Cath?”

“I’m pregnant?” I say without further thinking about it. Warrick is dumbfounded, until he realizes what I just told him. “See I knew that you wouldn’t like it.” I break down into tears, all the insecurities are back, the sleepless night release their full consequences on me and I feel tired. All I want to do is go home and cry myself to sleep.

“But babe, that’s great news, what can be wrong about me becoming a dad?”

“We never talked about this, hell we never even discussed living together and now I’m forcing this child on you.”

“Cath, your not forcing anything on me. It’s the best present you could possibly give me.” Warrick
He stands up and moves before me, he bends down before he kisses me. He kneels down on one knee, and holds on to my hand. He reaches up to put a stray of hear behind my ear.

“I had it all planned out, I even asked Friday night off for both of us. But I can’t wait anymore.” He looks into my eyes deeply before he continues.

“Catherine, will you do me the honour and be my wife, the mother of my child.”

One small step

Catherine woke up late in the morning, when a ray of light hit her face. Strong arms where wrapped around her, her fingers entangled in his. The events of last night came back to her mind and she smiled at the thoughts. They had been turning circles around this for weeks, hell even for months. Not sure what to do or how to react around each other. She knew that it would happen sooner or later. And she was relieved that it finally happened. They no longer needed to act around each other, finally they could just say whatever they wanted. He stirred in his sleep and Catherine snuggled closer to him. He leaned down and kissed her bare shoulder.

“Sleep well?” He asked with a low voice. Her fingers drew circles on his arm before she answered.

“Never better.”

She treasured the moment that they had right now and wished that she could wake up like this every morning feeling his strong arms wrapped around her body.

“Hey Warrick,” she said while she turned around in his embrace and leaned down on her arms. “You know we can do this, together, just one small step after another.”

“Small steps, I thought that yesterday was a pretty big step especially because it was the first.”

She playfully swatted his arm. “You know damn well what I mean, mister Brown.” She answered before she leaned down and kissed him while she caressed his bare chest.

You, babe

Finally this horrendous shift was over, finally she could go home and sleep the day away. She was retrieving her belongings from her locker when she heard the door behind her open. Without turning around she knew who it was, as he laid his strong hands on her shoulders. She leaned into the touch, and sighed as he massaged her sore shoulders.

He leaned down and sucked at her ear lob before he moved further down along the curves of her neck. He slowly moved his hands towards her hips, and kissed her one last time before he turned her around and pushed her against the lockers with her back. While he kissed her passionately, she kissed him back driven by an equal amount of passion.

They where both in need for air when they finally pulled apart. She leaned her head against his well trained chest as he kissed the top of her head. “I’ve been waiting for this since this shift started, I’ve been waiting for you, babe.”
